Aisling Timoney has over 8 years’ experience in healthcare law, analysing and advising on the legal issues and challenges faced by medical professionals, including general practitioners.
Aisling qualified in 2011 having studied in Trinity College (LLB Ling. Franc) and The Law Society of Ireland. She has experience of working for two leading healthcare defence practices in Dublin – Matheson and Hayes Solicitors.
Aisling’s experience to date in the context of clinical negligence claims includes investigating civil claims ranging from comparatively minor to catastrophic injuries and advising on appropriate case strategy. Her particular interest lies in the regulatory sphere and advising doctors who are the subject of complaints. She was the lead defence solicitor in a high profile Medical Council Fitness to Practise Inquiry concerning wrong site surgery and in subsequent, successful Judicial Review proceedings which challenged the outcome of that Inquiry and which changed the landscape of regulatory law in Ireland.
Aisling also previously worked as In-House Legal Advisor to the Medical Council of Ireland. She has an excellent and rounded knowledge of the medico legal environment in Ireland and of the particular challenges and issues associated with regulatory and disciplinary proceedings.
